After God delivered the Israelites from Pharaoh, He led them to the edge of the Red Sea. What’s fascinating is that God directed them to camp in a very specific location:
Exodus 14:2 (NIV) “Tell the Israelites to turn back and encamp near Pi Hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea. They are to encamp by the sea, directly opposite Baal Zephon.”
From a human perspective, this made no sense. They were boxed in — sea in front of them, mountains around them, and Pharaoh’s army bearing down behind them.
Exodus 14:10–12 (NIV) “As Pharaoh approached, the Israelites looked up, and there were the Egyptians, marching after them. They were terrified and cried out to the Lord. They said to Moses, ‘Was it because there were no graves in Egypt that you brought us to the desert to die? … It would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the desert!’”
Can you relate? Sometimes life leaves us feeling trapped — no way forward, no way back. But God specializes in making a way where there is no way. So what should we do when we find ourselves at a dead end?
1. Remind Yourself: What Did God Say?
Hold tightly to God’s promises.
His Word is full of unshakable promises.
His prophetic words to you carry life and direction.
Reminding yourself of His promises builds faith — the very ingredient needed for God to work powerfully in your situation.
2. Remind Yourself: What Has God Done?
Think back to the times God has come through for you before.
Psalm 77:11–12 (NIV) “I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago. I will consider all your works and meditate on all your mighty deeds.”
Rehearsing past victories strengthens your heart for the challenge you face right now.
3. Look at What God Is Doing Right Now
Even when fear blinds us, God is still moving. For Israel, He gave a pillar of cloud by day and fire by night — a visible reminder that His presence was with them. But they focused on the enemy instead of the evidence of God’s hand.
Pause and reflect: What is God doing around you today? Where can you see His fingerprints in your life?
4. Move Forward
When the Israelites cried out in despair, God gave Moses a clear command:
Exodus 14:15–16 (NIV) “Then the Lord said to Moses, ‘Why are you crying out to me? Tell the Israelites to move on. Raise your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea to divide the water so that the Israelites can go through the sea on dry ground.’”
Faith is not passive — it moves. Sometimes the step forward is worship, sometimes it’s thanksgiving, sometimes it’s reaching out for prayer, but always it is choosing to believe God more than your fear.
Lift your hands and worship.
Lift your hands and thank Him.
Stand with a brother or sister in prayer.
Believe like you’ve never believed before.
There is always something you can do to take a step of faith.
God Will Make a Way
When you remind yourself of God’s Word, remember His past faithfulness, notice His present activity, and take steps of faith — you create the atmosphere for a miracle.
God made a way through the Red Sea. And He will make a way for you.
No obstacle is too big. No dead end is final. When God is with you, there is always a way forward.
